At Liston College we are able to offer every student an opportunity to be part of The Young Vinnies Portfolio.
This is a voluntary commitment; student members make to serve others in our community. School leaders are officially commissioned by The St Vincent de Paul Society. The Young Vinnies leaders attend a team building camp at the start of the year and then meet twice a month to discuss and lead projects to help those who need support and assistance. The leaders also encourage and empower younger Liston Men to join the Young Vinnies Team and demonstrate their Catholic faith in action.
Here are some of the ways they help:
- Visiting the elderly in local homes
- Collecting and organising of non-perishable food items
- Serving at the homeless shelters
- Fundraising for local causes
- Organising fun events for the less fortunate
- ‘Cook Ups’ with Saint Dominic’s students for the elderly
- Delivering food parcels in West Auckland
- Organising Christmas parcels
- Participating in Vinnies and Auckland Diocese Youth Masses
