Progress Reports are available for you to view online and discuss with your son(s). These are a summary of his / their progress since late March.

Unfortunately the next opportunity for you to discuss these with your son’s teachers, face to face, will not be until early Term 3, after the full Midyear Report is available.

However, if you require some clarification, wish to discuss some aspect of the Progress Report or arrange an appointment with one or more of our staff, please do not hesitate to email or phone (you may need to leave a message) your son’s teachers to arrange - Visit: email / contact us on the school’s website.

Teacher Only Day – June 1

Last Friday, our staff and that of 12 local Primary, Intermediate and Secondary Schools, some 450 in total participated in the first of such Professional Development Days.

The day began at Waitakere College with a flag raising to mark Samoan Independence Day and a Mihi Whakatau to welcome the participants. Russell Bishop, a researcher and a professor of Māori Education at the University of Waikato spoke on Relationship Based Education

The local schools then hosted in excess of 40 workshops. Relationships centred on raising achievement for all learners, with the day culminating in a final session with Russell Bishop.

The feedback I have had to date has been very positive.

Visits by Tertiary Institutions

Throughout this term Mrs Shepheard has organised a visit to the college by number of Tertiary Institutions. They have taken this opportunity to outline courses and pathways, both academic and trade related, on offer to our students once they leave Liston College.

Where your son is unsure of the pathway they wish to take, upon leaving Liston College, they should make an appointment with Mrs Shepheard to discuss the opportunities out there and plan how to take advantage of them.

Mrs Shepheard is also available to discuss with students and parents, what subjects they should be looking at, where a pathway is known. Students from Years 8-12 will be making their option choices in August.

As part of the school review process, we are reviewing what information we make available to parents at the beginning of each academic year and how this material is presented to parents.

I encourage you to participate in this survey so that we can better meet your needs around the timely provision of relevant information for the beginning of each academic year.
