Thanks to all who contributed to the success of the Gala. At this stage it looks like the PTFA will have raised over $12,000 which represents an excellent effort.

Josh Blackie Scholarship:

Congratulations to Gabriel Tuala who will receive this scholarship for 2013. It was a difficult decision with a number of strong candidates applying for it. In the end Josh make the final decision. Thanks to Josh for his continuing generosity.

Prefects Retreat:

The Prefects have an overnight retreat at the Franciscan Friary. Br. Damian Price will be leading the Retreat. We are fortunate to have him back to the College as he has a busy schedule but is always willing to include Liston College in it.

Open Evening:

Parents are invited to attend the College’s Open Evening on Wednesday 10th April from 7.00—9.00pm.  This is an opportunity for you to visit your son’s school.  Please invite any friend or family who may be interested in sending their son to Liston College in the future.

Parent-Teacher Interviews:

A reminder that the interviews will be held on 16th and 17th April from 7.00 – 9.00pm. I have arranged for a number of parents to be contacted directly to encourage them to make appointment times. This is to ensure that we have the opportunity to discuss specific issues which impact on your son’s achievement. I believe one of the reasons for our success in recent years has been the increased involvement of parents and caregivers in the progress of the students. I look forward to meeting you at these meetings.

George Smith in Year 7 represented the College in the recent Western Zone Schools’ Swimming Championship. He was entered in five events – 50 and 100m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly. George was first in all five events! He will represent Liston College in the Auckland Championships.

Benedict Chong Wong competed in the National Athletics Championships in Auckland. Benedict won the U18 Shot Put title with a throw of 19.14m. This throw qualifies him for the World U18 Championships in Moscow in July this year. This is a fantastic achievement and we wish him well as he prepares for this event. In the meantime Benedict is working to secure sponsorship to enable him to attend.  Benedict represented Liston College at the Auckland Champion of Champions Athletics Competition and won the Shot Put title. He will represent the College in the National Competition in Hamilton at the end of the year.

May God bless you and your family
